Detail Personal and Practice Information:
Why EmergiClinic?
EmergiClinic signifies that our facility is part emergency center and part clinic.
ER's are typically extremely expensive, inefficient, and impersonal especially for the uninsured, who in effect subsidize medical care for others (and are least able to do so). They also cannot provide continuity of care and have difficulty arranging follow-up appointments with staff physicians should a patient need one.
Walk-in clinics and urgent care centers typically do not have the expertise to care for serious illnesses.
There seems to be a need at this time for a hybrid that offers capabilities similar to ER's at a more reasonable cost. PATMOS EmergiClinic is such a hybrid.
We treat dehydration from gastroenteritis with IV fluids for less than $100, about 10 to 20 percent of typical ER charges. We also have kept patients out of the hospital for illnesses such as pneumonia, kidney infections, and serious skin infections by leaving an IV hookup in their arm and have them return repeatedly for IV medications.
There also seems to be a need to tap into the experience and knowledge of retired emergency physicians. The average career span in emergency medicine is less than 10 years due to burnout from shift work, incessant stress, and unappreciative patients. These physicians usually go into occupational medicine or some low-key urgent care - their valuable talent essentially wasted. PATMOS EmergiClinics can extend their careers and make their skills available long past this 10 year cut especially for the uninsured serve.
